Organization Structure

The projects at MEWA are run through various boards, as listed below:

WELFARE BOARD

MEWA started a Computer Training Programme in October 2006 under the Welfare Board to introduce Computer Technology as a means of enhancing youth from needy backgrounds to favorably and competently participate in the job market. The knowledge is expected to improve on the technological aspects of the community by empowering the youth with the current know-how of obtaining, sharing and transferring knowledge in all important fields of development.

HEALTH BOARD

MEWA is in the forefront in the fight against drug abuse among the vulnerable groups within our society. It has successful established a residential treatment on the outskirt of Mombasa town as a result of the concern on the growing number of the youth in Mombasa involved in drug abuse. The facility was donated by the Rotary International and formally launched on 8th April, 2001. The centre has to date provided residential treatment and rehabilitation to more than 300 drug abusers with some of them now actively playing a role of voluntarily creating awareness against the vice.

MEWA WOMEN ACTION GROUP

MEWA Women Action Group (MWAG) is the women’s wing of the Muslim Education and Welfare Association (MEWA) in Mombasa. It was set up in 1998, after the realization that women were an integral component of the work of MEWA.

Previous activities include cooking food for MEWA Drug Treatment Centre’s patients, supplying food items and clothes to Orphanages, preparing bodies of females who had no relatives around for burial, assisting in MEWA Medical Camps and fundraising. MWAG has been inactive for a while and has now been revived with the support of MEWA to engage in well formulated strategic socio-economic intervention into the local community.

MEDICAL BOARD

MEWA Medical Centre (MMC) is a fully-fledged hospital, offering both in-patient and out-patient services, a General Ward, a Paediatric Ward, a Private Ward, a Maternity Ward, a Theatre, a Laboratory, an X-Ray and Scan department, a Pharmacy and CCC services.
